Kelvin ‘Shugy’ Simon, the Member of Parliament for St. Mary’s South, said he is confident of winning the constituency again in the April 30 general election, pointing to what he described as a strong relationship with voters built through consistent service and advocacy.

“I have a special relationship with the people in St. Mary’s South,” Simon told Antigua.News. “As I interact with them on a daily basis, they continue to re-emphasise the confidence that they have in me.”

Simon, who won the seat in a 2023 by-election, will once again face ABLP candidate Dwayne George, who himself expressed confidence in winning the seat.

Simon said the dynamic of facing the same opponent in a general election does not concern him, arguing that voters in the constituency are driven by substance rather than party loyalty.

Simon highlighted his record as an opposition MP, citing the level of advocacy and pressure he has placed on the government to deliver for the constituency.

He pointed to his work with young people, schools and the elderly, and singled out one accomplishment he described as unprecedented.

Simon said the experience has demonstrated to constituents that his motivation is service rather than personal gain.
