Antigua and Barbuda and China are looking to deepen their partnership in healthcare, environmental sustainability and national development following high-level talks between Health Minister Michael Joseph and Chinese Ambassador Jiang Wei.

The discussions took place during a courtesy visit by Ambassador Jiang to the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs, where both officials examined opportunities for expanded cooperation in several key sectors.

Among the areas discussed were healthcare development, wellness programmes, environmental initiatives, capacity building and technical cooperation. The meeting also provided an opportunity for both sides to review existing partnerships and identify new areas where collaboration could benefit the people of Antigua and Barbuda.

Minister Joseph expressed appreciation for the longstanding relationship between Antigua and Barbuda and China, noting the significant contributions China has made to the country’s development over the years. He pointed to support in healthcare, infrastructure, education and technical assistance as examples of the strong partnership that has existed between the two nations.

The minister also highlighted the importance of continued cooperation as Antigua and Barbuda seeks to strengthen its healthcare system and improve the well-being of its citizens.

For her part, Ambassador Jiang reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Antigua and Barbuda’s development goals and maintaining strong diplomatic relations. She underscored the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration in addressing shared challenges and advancing sustainable growth.

The meeting reflected a shared commitment to strengthening healthcare services, promoting environmental sustainability and building greater economic and social resilience.

Both officials concluded the discussions by reaffirming their commitment to preserving the strong friendship between Antigua and Barbuda and China while exploring new opportunities for cooperation in the years ahead.
